Understanding the Client

A fast-growing company operating in intelligence services, development, and cybersecurity, the Dark Wolf Solutions team needed a website redesign to capture their capabilities and inspire job applicants. I assisted in stakeholder interviews to gain a better idea of the company identity, and to identify challenges the company faced with their old website. A key point brought up by stakeholders was their intent to inspire applicants through impactful and exciting visual design.

My goal as the lead UI designer was to tell the story of this unique company while emphasizing the critical content job applicants would be after—including capabilities, company culture, and a portal to open positions. Observing how open the stakeholders were to more bold design elements, I created stylescapes to gauge the client's likings of different web personalities.

What’s a Rich Text element?

The rich text element allows you to create and format headings, paragraphs, blockquotes, images, and video all in one place instead of having to add and format them individually. Just double-click and easily create content.

Static and dynamic content editing

A rich text element can be used with static or dynamic content. For static content, just drop it into any page and begin editing. For dynamic content, add a rich text field to any collection and then connect a rich text element to that field in the settings panel. Voila!

How to customize formatting for each rich text

Headings, paragraphs, blockquotes, figures, images, and figure captions can all be styled after a class is added to the rich text element using the "When inside of" nested selector system.

Narrowing Ideation

Through competitive audit of direct and indirect competitors in the IT sphere, I was able to narrow some design decisions and reveal what was needed and not needed. Prior to this redesign, Dark Wolf Solution's web UI was unsuccessful with its widely overused and outdated numeric code visuals. What this client needed was to rival its modern competitors with modern design—to push clean typography, effective color usage, and eye-catching graphics and imagery.

Design Elements

Along with designing for the targeted users—job applicants—I also considered and recognized the business needs. What voice and tone was needed to convey the persona this company wanted to convey? Taking stakeholder feedback into account from the chosen stylescape, I better understood the mix of professionalism and bold enthusiasm they were looking for. There was a balance to be found to accomplish this, and so multiple iterative mockups were needed. A benefit of having a unanimous stylescape chosen by stakeholders was being able to explore an existing set of elements further; finding their best form in relation to our established UX.

Setting Dark Wolf Solutions apart from the pack, the redesign utilizes their original color palette and is refreshed and livened with new imagery and design elements. The company's office space takes the foreground of imagery to introduce job applicant prospects to the space and culture they'd be applying to. With Dark Wolf's attitude and environment now on full display, candidates have realized their unique culture and are enticed by their work-hard play-hard mentality.
